These days there is a business model that rents out a special place to vent anger. This room, called the rage room or Destroy Stuff  room , offers facilities for you to destroy the items in it. However, can the rage room really provide benefits to help reduce anger and stress ?

Anger is a natural human emotion. Maybe there are some people who are able to contain their anger. However, if it continues to be buried, anger can explode like a ticking time bomb in the future.

Emotional behavior such as anger is strongly influenced by the limbic system in the brain. The limbic system consists of the amygdala, septum, hypothalamus, and hippocampus.

When angry, changes in body functions will occur, such as increased blood pressure, stomach acid, and GERD. On the psychological side, anger is often followed by feelings of wanting to destroy or throw things as an outlet for feelings.

Of course this is a detrimental act. Not only has an impact on the material side, people around you can also be affected. It is not impossible if the outburst of anger can encourage someone to hurt another person.

In this fury room you can destroy as much stuff as you want without feeling guilty or bothering to clean up the pieces afterward.

At first glance, this form of release can be an effective way to relieve stress and make you feel better. However, the effect obtained actually does not last long.

However, according to the theory of catharsis which stands on the basis of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, emotions that are continuously suppressed or suppressed can result in excessive emotional outbursts.

When it happens, then they can just vent it in physical form such as destroying or slamming things. Even though it doesn’t hurt other people, it can actually increase anger.

A study shows that instead of reducing anger, people who engage in physical releases as an outlet actually experience increased aggression afterward.

In the study, one group was given the opportunity to express anger by hitting a punching bag. While one other group was left waiting without doing any activity.

As a result, the group with the punching bag felt more anger than the other group with a lower response to aggression. This is presumably because acts of physical release such as breaking things and hitting objects make a person have to remember things that make him angry.

When this happens, the emotional neural pathways of anger will become more active and ultimately encourage a person to act more aggressively in the future.

Rage room may be a means to get rid of bad feelings instantly. Unfortunately, visiting this place is not a healthy way to manage emotions. This is especially true for people who have problems controlling anger .

Instead of feeling relieved, this method can actually trigger the person to commit acts of violence in the future.

Don’t have to destroy things, control your anger properly

Instead of venting emotions on inanimate objects, there are other, more effective and healthy ways to manage anger . When anger starts to appear, you can try ways like the one below.

1. Relax

When stress and anger come, you can try relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or body exercises such as yoga. Demonstrate yoga poses that can relax your body muscles. This exercise can make you feel much calmer.

2. Know the causes of anger and learn how to deal with it

Learning more about anger, its triggers, and how to properly channel it can minimize the urge to take it out on other objects.

It can also help you to keep yourself from venting anger against innocent people.

3. Participate in social skills training

This form of behavior therapy teaches you to have healthier social relationships with others. So, you can more easily avoid anger and stress.

4. Wise in solving problems

Not all problems can be easily fixed, such as work or finances. However, this does not mean it is impossible to do. Try not to focus too much on your emotions.

Handle it calmly, if necessary be more proactive in conveying what is the problem. This can help you reduce stressors in your life.

5. Change your mindset when problems occur

The next step is to change your mindset on the triggering situation. When you are angry, your thoughts can be overwhelming and overly dramatic. For example, you may feel that one minor incident has caused your plans to fail.
